18-year-old midfielder set to pen long-term contract with Tottenham

Highly-rated Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie Bowden has reportedly agreed on a new three-and-a-half-year contract with the Spurs. London club have tied the rising starlet down with a new deal until 2023.

The 18-year-old midfielder is considered one of the club’s brightest prospects for the future and has previously drawn comparisons to former deep-lying midfielder Michael Carrick.

It is thought former coach Mauricio Pochettino was a big fan of the Republic of Ireland U19 international, with the Argentine handing him a first-team chance against Girona in pre-season in 2018. He was also taken on Tottenham’s pre-season tour of Asia earlier this year.

Bowden is yet to make his first-team bow in a competitive capacity, but if he works hard then perhaps his opportunity will come in 2019/20. New boss Jose Mourinho has already suggested he’s prepared to give youth a chance at Tottenham, which will provide Bowden with all the encouragement he needs.

In recent times midfield talents Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp have made the step up from the academy, and Jamie Bowden will hope to be next. Certainly, the club seems to have faith in him by handing him a longer-term deal.
