Axel Witsel has been questioned about transfer interest from Manchester United after it was suggested Jose Mourinho scouted him during the recent international break.
According to Belgian publication Het Laatste Nieuws, Jose Mourinho travelled to Brussels to watch the midfielder in Belgium’s Nations League victory over Iceland on November 15.
But the Portuguese manager’s insisted that the reason for the visit was to monitor Romelu Lukaku after the striker picked up an injury in training 13 days earlier.
Axel Witsel moved to Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window, and he was asked by German publication Bild why he moved to the Bundesliga side when both Manchester United and Paris-Saint Germain were credited with an interest in him.
“Because I felt that Dortmund is the right choice,” he said. “I knew from the beginning that I have the quality to assert myself here and to help. Nevertheless, the BVB was a challenge for me, which I absolutely wanted to accept.”
It is well-known fact that Jose Mourinho is not satisfied with his current squad, complaints about lack of quality and demand big money moves from the Manchester United board.
