Arsenal face competition to sign £43m-rated midfielder

Manchester United are keen on signing young Roma ace Nicolo Zaniolo, who has become one of the hottest prospects in Serie A in the last year and is valued at around £43 million by his side.

Although yet to nail down a regular starting place at Italian giants, Nicolo Zaniolo featured 32 times this term, netting six goals and providing two assists from midfield.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport claims a host of clubs are monitoring the 19-year-old’s progress including Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Arsenal too have been credited with an interest in the teenager, who is under contract at Roma until 2023. Nicolo Zaniolo joined AS Roma from Inter Milan last summer and the Italian’s displays this term earned him his first international call-up to Roberto Mancini’s team.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the hunt for young talent in the summer as the club aims to change his approach to signings.

Manchester United have spent a fortune on luring established stars to the Theatre of Dreams in the last three years, but after a host of high profile flops, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will return to Sir Alex Ferguson’s recruitment methods.

The legendary manager insisted on signing outfield players aged 27 or younger, who could be developed into superstars at Old Trafford.

The Norwegian boss has been linked with a string of young talent including Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, while Arsenal are also trying to sign Nicolas Pepe.
