Arsenal plan to start talks with Alexandre Lacazette over a new long-term deal at the club to fend off interest from Barcelona.
The Spanish champions are understood to be keen on signing the France international as a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez.
Alexandre Lacazette joined the Gunners for a then-club record fee of around £47 million back in 2017 and he has formed a formidable partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubamaeyang under Unai Emery.
The Gunners must beat their London rivals Chelsea in the Europa League final to gain entry into the Champions League and a failure to do so will impact Unai Emery’s budget.
Nevertheless, the striker is considered invaluable, and the club want to sit down with his agents once the season finishes to improve his existing contract. The club are aware of interest from La Liga giants but feel the striker is happy at Emirates Stadium and will commit his future to the club.
Arsenal will not listen to offers for Alexander Lacazette or Aubamaeyang and plan to hold similar talks with the Gabon international over a new contract, according to the Daily Mail. Both parties can expect to be put on wages closer to top earner Mesut Ozil and around the £250,000-a-week mark.
Arsenal must be careful not to lose a key player to European giants as the Gunners are on the verge of building a strong side who will try to compete for the top four of the Premier League.
