Arsenal have finally told Aaron Ramsey why he will not be handed a new contract, and the playmaker will now leave the club on a free transfer.
The Wales international’s deal is due to expire in the summer and following prolonged negotiations the 27-year-old was set to sign an extension.
But the north London club decided to withdraw their offer without explaining their reasoning to the player, leaving him unhappy with the club’s approach to the situation. ‘Hopefully, somebody will come up and tell me why,’ Ramsey said last week.
‘I’ll accept that if there’s a reason. When the time is right, I probably will find out, but that hasn’t happened yet. ‘We all know that the contract was taken away off the table. I’m not sure exactly why because a few weeks before we sort of agreed and I was ready to sign.’
And this will be the midfielder’s final season at the club before he leaves as a free agent. Juventus have been linked with a move for Aaron Ramsey, who could switch clubs in the winter window if Arsenal are willing to accept a reduced transfer fee.
