Arsenal are considering using Ainsley Maitland-Niles or Reiss Nelson in their attempt to sign Crystal Palace star Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Englishman has been in sublime form for the Eagles this term, and his impressive displays have attracted interest from a host of Premier League sides including Manchester United and Tottenham.
But The Sun reports that the Gunners’ scout Brian McDermott is keeping close tabs on the youngster and the club are ‘desperate’ to land the 21-year-old.
Crystal Palace are asking for a £40 million, but Arsenal want to lower that asking price by offering players in exchange.
Reiss Nelson, who is currently on loan at German club Hoffenheim, is a potential candidate as is Ainsley Maitland-Niles who has deputised at both flanks for Unai Emery this season.
But losing Reiss Nelson will be a hard hit for the Emirates side as the young Englishman is going to have a bright future.
The report adds that Arsenal’s recruitment team are ‘convinced’ that the English defender is the player they want to sign in the transfer window.
Meanwhile, Roy Hodgson revealed this week that he was not surprised after Aaron Wan-Bissaka failed to make the Three Lions’ senior squad for England’s upcoming international break.
‘My eyebrows were not raised, I do not see why they should be,’ said the Crystal Palace manager.
‘He is picked for the England Under-21s which in itself is a very, very big honour. ‘It is good to know that, reading Gareth Southgate’s comments, he is aware of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and what he can do.’
