Robert Pires thinks Rennes attacker Ismaila Sarr would be a quality addition to Unai Emery’s team were he to complete a move to Emirates this summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old has notched up ten goals and 11 assists in all competitions for Rennes this campaign and caught the eye in the Europa League tie with the Gunners earlier this month.
Simaila Sarr netted the third goal in his side’s 3-1 first-leg win over the Premier League giants, and reports suggest the English club opened talks to sign the winger straight after the final whistle.
Former head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, identified the youngster as a potential target for the club before he opted to leave the club last month.
Denis Suarez has been a huge disappointment since his January loan switch from La Liga and Robert Pires has urged Unai Emery to consider a move for Rennes ace this summer.
Asked about Arsenal’s interest in Ismaila Sarr, the Frenchman told Sport24: ‘Ismaila Sarr? It would not hurt Arsenal to sign him, but I do not know his price [laughs].
‘He has the profile to evolve at the Gunners. He would adapt quickly to the way of play wanted by Unai Emery.’
It is believed the Ligue 1 side are demanding a fee of £40 million for their prized asset in the summer transfer window.
While Unai Emery has been handed a transfer budget of around £50 million ahead of the 2019/20 season, but this figure is likely to increase if Arsenal qualify for next season’s Champions League.
