Dalian Yifang are reportedly interested in a deal to sign Newcastle United defender Federico Fernandez. Yifang coach Rafa Benitez is keen on a reunion with the Former Argentina international as he looks to strengthen his squad with a footballer from his former club.
The report claims that several unnamed Spanish clubs are also eyeing Federico, with his contract up at the end of the season. Magpies have plenty of depth in the centre-back position and can afford to move Fernandez on either in winter or on a free transfer in the summer when his deal expires.
If they can get a transfer fee for the 30-year-old defender from a Chinese club, it would be a good deal all-round. Yifang would be a getting a reliable Argentine centre-back and Magpies would add more funds to a potential transfer budget in the next summer.
With Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett, Fabian Schar, Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark all also at the club, Magpies manager has plenty of options at the back. Federico has not been able to break back into the starting line-up and, therefore, is a dispensible member of the team at present.
