Everton want to reinforce their defence by signing Serie A pair Cristian Zapata and Davide Calabria as AC Milan are in crisis at the moment.
The Italian giants put all their eggs into the Champions League basked and, after failing to qualify for Europe’s top competition for the sixth consecutive year, their plans have now been well and truly scrambled.
According to The Mirror, the seven-time Champions League winners have now been banned from continental competition for the 2019/20 season after being found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.
San Siro outfit were fully aware that missing out on the top four in Serie A would force them to cash in on several players this summer transfer window and the Rossoneri will now spend the rest of the window desperately hoping to raise funds to avoid a repeat of this unseemly scenario.
And Everton are keen to land Davide Calabria as competition for Seamus Coleman at right-back while experienced Colombian central defender Cristian Zapata is also a transfer target, with the Merseyside club looking to replace departed Phil Jagielka.
Davide Calabria is one of the most sellable assets within AC Milan’s team while they would surely be willing to offload the South American ace too, given that he is no longer a guaranteed starter at San Siro.
So this is an ideal time for the Toffees to pursue a double-deal which would give their backline some added depth and steel and will surely boost Marco Silva’s chances of sneaking in top six.
