The Sun is reporting that Everton are interested in raiding Bournemouth for Nathan Ake as The Toffees are in desperate need of a centre-back with the Merseyside club failing to sign Chelsea pair Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori.
With Marcel Brands pulling strings from his director of football role, The Merseysiders appear to have aced the transfer window, on paper at least. But despite the eye-catching additions of Moise Kean, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Fabian Delph and Andre Gomes the Toffees are still one centre-back short.
It looks increasingly unlikely that Chelsea star Kurt Zouma will return from Stamford Bridge for a second loan spell at Goodison Park in the future, so the Merseyside club are now searching for alternatives.
Another Chelsea starlet, Fikayo Tomori, was an option after a superb stint at Derby County under Frank Lampard but The Sun reports that Nathan Ake is also on the radar.
The Netherlands international has been a revelation since joining the Cherries from the current Europa League winners two years ago, and comparisons will inevitably be drawn with his compatriot Virgil van Dijk, another commanding Netherlands centre-back who has become a world-class defender since moving to Anfield.
The issue is that Bournemouth are demanding £75 million for their prized asset, perhaps inspired by Leicester City’s determination to earn top dollar for England international Harry Maguire.
So the Cherries are unlikely drop their valuation considerably, meaning Everton will have to splash huge amount of money on the Dutchman.
