Man City will reportedly launch a bid for Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu in an attempt to shore up their shaky back-line. Citizens fell 11 points behind leaders Liverpool on the weekend following a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United that saw the club give away a lead in the 88th minute.
Man City, who are also without key centre-back Aymeric Laporte due to a long-term injury, have picked up criticism for failing to replace Vincent Kompany over the summer transfer window. Pep Guardiola views Turkey international as an ideal replacement for Citizens’ former captain.
The Spanish tactician, despite Man City’s stunted 2019-20 season, is said to be likely to stay at the Etihad Stadium next summer and oversee the rebuilding of his squad, with David Silva and Sergio Aguero serving as two other key footballers who require long-term replacements.
However, Foxes are highly unlikely to dispense with Caglar, who has been one of Leicester’s best players since he was signed as Harry Maguire’s replacement in August. Soyuncu is contracted with the English club until 2023, and his release clause is around €25m. He also helped his national team to get the Euro 2020 ticket.
