Man City coach Pep Guardiola is reportedly interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic. The 31-year-old midfielder has been a key figure for the Catalan club since joining them from Sevilla in 2014. So far, Ivan has played 274 games for the Blaugrana, scoring 34 goals and providing 37 assists.
This campaign, Rakitic has featured in six out of Barcelona’s ten games, making only one start with Ernesto Valverde preferring a midfield trio of Arthur, Busquets and Frenkie de Jong. Croatia international’s current deal expires in 2021, but Barcelona are keen on letting him go before then.
Man City coach Guardiola is an admirer of the Croatian midfielder and wants to make a move for him in winter. Ivan is currently valued at €35m, and that looks a price Citizens could easily afford. However, it might be tough for Rakitic to find game time at the Etihad because of the amount of quality in Spanish tactician’s midfield.
Man City would probably view Croatian footballer as an upgrade on someone like Ilkay Gundogan, who has not been too convincing of late as Citizens go through a bit of a wobble at the start of this campaign. Silva and Fernandinho are also preparing to leave the club next summer.
