Man City losing race for €60m-rated Serie A giants flop

Barcelona are now in pole position to sign Juventus full-back Joao Cancelo, who had also attracted interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

The right-back position has been a problem area for the Spanish champions since Dani Alves departed, as although many have played in that role since his exit, they have not settled on one man in particular.

Nelson Semedo appeared to be the temporary solution, but based on the speculation, it seems as though he has not entirely convinced the La Liga title holders.

According to Goal, it has been suggested that the Catalan giants are now the leaders for Joao Cancelo’s services, with Juventus valuing the Portugal international at €60 million.

It’s claimed that Manchester City were keen, but their efforts to try and include Danilo in a swap deal have failed of reaching an agreement, and so that could now be to Barcelona’s benefit.

Having splashed out €75 million on Frenkie de Jong this summer, coupled with ongoing speculation linking them with a move for Antoine Griezmann, it’s difficult to see how the Catalan giants are going to afford such spending.

Time will tell if it means making sacrifices and players also leave, it would appear as though they are serious about signing the 25-year-old defender, who enjoyed a bright start to his first year with the Serie A champions last year, as had previously impressed during a loan spell with Inter Milan.

However, his form tailed off as the season progressed and Italian giants have opted to sell him this summer.
