Man United to replace David de Gea with €25m goalkeeper

Manchester United are readying to sell David De Gea this summer due to a contract stand-off with his agents and have identified Barcelona’s No.2 Jasper Cillessen as a possible replacement.

David De Gea has demanded parity in wages with top earner Alexis Sanchez – £400,000 a week – but has been told by Ed Woodward that such a pay rise is impossible.

the club’s executive vice-chairman has privately accepted that it was a mistake to sign Alexis Sanchez on such a hefty contract and is wary of doing so again in the case of David De Gea, who endured an error-strewn end to the campaign.

Only Arsenal’s Bernd Leno and Bournemouth’s Asmir Begovic committed more errors (five) leading to goals in the Premier League this season than the Spain international (four) while he was also culpable for a mistake against Barcelona.

Although United have triggered an optional one-year extension to the 28-year-old’s deal, a failure to obtain him to a longer-term deal could result in the Spanish star leaving on a free transfer next summer.

To avoid that scenario, Manchester United would have to cash in on David De Gea in the upcoming transfer window, and although this season was arguably his worst in the Premier League.

The Netherlands international has been unable to dislodge Marc-Andre ter Stegen from Barcelona and would cost €25 million.

While Jasper Cillessen has two years left on his contract at Camp Nou, he has insisted that he wants to move on to play regular first-team football.
