Manchester City centre-back close to joining Flamengo

According to Brazilian Journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira, Manchester City centre-back Pablo Marí should be on his way out of the club with Flamengo being very close to announcing the signing of the defender.

Although a few websites claim the 25-year-old’s deal with the Premier League winners expires this summer, the reliable journalist says that ‘his rights are being acquired with City’.

It’s suggested that there are only a few contract details remaining to be sorted, and he should soon have his move to Rio de Janeiro made official.

The Brazilian giants were close to signing the Colombia international Christian Zapata, but manager Jorge Jesus has vetoed the move.

It is pretty rare for Europeans to leave the continent and move overseas, and the Jorge Jesus factor certainly helped to convince the Spanish star to join the Brazilian club.

Pablo Marí had loan deals at Girona, NAC Breda and Deportivo La Coruña and made 38 appearances last season for the Spanish club.

Manchester City signed the defender from Gimnastic back in 2016, but the centre-back has seen his chances limited at the English champions.

Manchester City have increased their offer for Juventus defender Joao Cancelo as they look to bolster on the right side of their backline.

The Portugal international is regarded as a replacement for Danilo, who is understood to be looking for first-team football elsewhere after only having a rotational role after spending two years at Etihad.
