Maurizio Sarri rejecting chance to land Belgian forward

Michy Batshuayi is set to return to Stamford Bridge after Valencia chose to cut short the striker’s loan.

The Belgium international joined the La Liga side on a season-long deal but has netted just three goals in 23 matches and Valencia have now confirmed that they have told the centre-forward that he has no future at the club.

‘We are negotiating with several clubs an exit for Batshuayi,’ Valencia’s sporting director Mateu Alemany said on Thursday. ‘The player knows, and we hope to reach a solution soon for the good of all parties. We are expecting an exit in the next few hours or days.’

But despite Maurizio Sarri’s desire to strengthen his attacking options with a new signing in the January window, the Chelsea boss has ruled out the prospect of Michy Batshuayi returning to the club until the end of the season.

‘The club knows very well my opinion,’ the Italian head coach said earlier this month. ‘I think we need something different for characteristics.’

Meanwhile, Chelsea are desperate to sign a striker with Callum Wilson and Jamie Vardy being on the top of the shortlist.
