Everton and Newcastle United will enter the battle to sign Gedson Fernandes. Magpies and the Toffees now under Carlo Ancelotti will both need reinforcements in winter if they want to propel themselves up the Premier League table.
Newcastle United are 13th at the moment, two places below Everton in 11th. But if rumours are believed, both teams are interested in making a blockbuster winter signing in the form of Gedson. Toffees and Magpies are ‘keen’ on the 20-year-old midfielder, who can also play on the wing.
The thing is, he won’t come cheap at all. The Benfica footballer reportedly has a £102m release clause in his contract in Portugal, making it very difficult for either Premier League side to do a deal in winter. Magpies need a new midfielder to strengthen the squad during the transfer window.
Will he wind up going for that? Probably not, but even still he’s going to fetch big money, and it stays to be seen if Everton, let alone the St James’s Parkside, can afford him this month. Fernandes has vast potential and can become a top-class midfielder if he continuous improvement.
