Magpies are set to make an offer for Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka. Switzerland international’s future at Emirates is currently in doubt after a public falling out with supporters, and Newcastle United are said to be keen to take advantage of the midfielder’s situation.
Steve Bruce is expected to be given funds to spend in winter, and he could use some in an attempt to bring Granit to St. James’ Park. If Xhaka was to move to Newcastle United, it would be a shock, but he could help upgrade their midfield options.
The 27-year-old midfielder has not always convinced at London club, but his ability in possession could be important to Magpies. Steve has some strong options in central midfield already, but Swiss midfielder would increase competition for places in Newcastle’s squad.
In truth, Magpies may not have had an opportunity at signing Granit if it wasn’t for his dispute with fans. Xhaka gesticulated angrily towards Gunners supporters after he was jeered when substituted off in a recent game with Crystal Palace, and he has not featured since.
There has been a lot of opinions expressed on the matter, but one man who has backed Swiss star is Pep Guardiola.
