Newcastle planning surprise move for No.7 South American striker

Magpies are keeping tabs on Atlanta United centre-forward, Josef Martinez. Newcastle United already signed an ex-teammate of Venezuela international’s, Miguel Almiron, and now want to add the Atlanta striker to their ranks.

Josef joined the MLS club in winter 2017 from Serie A club Torino and has an incredible goalscoring record at the club. He has scored 32 goals in 36 matches across all tournaments this campaign, helping Atlanta to the playoffs where they’ll play the New England Revolution.

Unsurprisingly, Martinez is attracting interest, however, Magpies aren’t the only club looking at him. Everton are also interested in him. That being said, Newcastle United must do everything to their powers to beat Toffees to the signing of the 26-year-old centre-forward in winter.

Magpies have struggled for goals this campaign, with summer signing Joelinton scoring only one goal so far this campaign. Miguel Almiron is yet to contribute with a goal or assist, while Andy Carroll has played just three times since this season returning to the club on a free transfer.

As simple as it gets, Steve Bruce’s side need a prolific striker if they are to avoid relegation from the top-flight. Signing a footballer like Venezuelan striker, who is a proven goalscorer, could be a good move by the Toon Army.
