Newcastle turned down chance to sign €20m-rated Algeria international

Magpies tried to sign Faouzi Ghoulam from Napoli last month. Jetro Willems has been ruled out for the campaign, and Newcastle United wanted to bring in the Napoli left-back as his replacement. According to a report from Corriere dello Sport, the Premier League club sent out a loan bid to sign Algeria international.

However, Faouzi decided to turn down the move as he was looking for a permanent transfer. Ghoulam would have been a superb signing for Steve Bruce’s side. They lack in quality full-backs right now, and the 29-year-old defender would have improved them.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer. Magpies will have to bolster their full-back areas. Willems has recently revealed that he would love to come back to the club. It stays to be seen whether Magpies are keen on returning for the Algerian defender in the summer.

Ghoulam has fallen out of favour at the Italian club, and Napoli are prepared to get rid of him. Newcastle United could look to sign Danny Rose on a permanent deal as well. It seems that the Magpies could have a host of options to solve their left-back issues at the end of this campaign.
