Newcastle United are after another midfielder this month, and their search has taken them to France. According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United have enquired about signing Wylan Cyprien from Nice, with Tottenham also keen.
The report claims that U21 France international is valued at nearly £20m, which would make him one of the Magpies most expensive players ever. Steve Bruce will reportedly ask Mike Ashley to sanction another big deal like he did last winter for Miguel Almiron, and Wylan certainly fits the bill.
While competing with Spurs won’t be easy, Magpies might have an advantage with Tottenham already ready to sign another midfielder, Gedson Fernandes. If the 24-year-old midfielder does move to St James’ Park, he’ll already have a friend there. Steve Bruce wants to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window.
Allan Saint-Maximin played alongside the midfielder for two campaigns, so the pair should already have an understanding. Magpies need extra quality in midfield, as there’s a distinct lack of creativity. But the French star has proven at Nice that he knows where the back of the net is, and he’d certainly be a welcome signing on Tyneside.
