Newcastle United enter the race to sign 20-year-old Eredivisie forward

Lyon are in the market for a new striker to bolster their attacking division, but they won’t do it ‘at any cost. After facing issues to sign Villarreal centre-forward Karl Toko Ekambi, the Ligue 1 giants have turned their attention towards PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo.

It’s claimed Magpies also have their sights on U21 Netherlands international, who can play anywhere up front. Cody has largely been used on the left-wing and has impressed this campaign by scoring four goals and registering five assists in 18 league matches (only seven starts).

According to the report, Les Gones have held initial discussions to sign Cody, and they would have to pay €10m to the Eredivisie side to conclude the transfer. However, they will face competition from Magpies to sign the 20-year-old winger. He has vast potential and can become a top-class winger if he continuous improvement.

With PSV looking at nearly €10m for the Dutch forward, Newcastle United have ‘significant financial resources’ to complete the deal, if Steve Bruce’s side are indeed keen on signing him. Magpies have terrible consequences in the Premier League this campaign as they are in a 13th place in the table.
