Magpies are interested in signing Genk centre-forward Mbwana Samatta. The 26-year-old striker got his name on the scoresheet during Genk’s UEFA Champions League clash at Anfield with Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Mbwana was a handful for the Merseyside club defence all evening, and his excellent displays have caught the eye of Newcastle United. It is understood that Samatta has a release clause of about £10m, however, the Magpies are ready to face contest for his signature as West Ham United are also said to be interested.

Signing Tanzania international would open up a whole new market of fans for the Magpies in Tanzania. Tanzanian centre-forward is the captain of his country and proved that he’ll be able to live with the intensity of the Premier League during the two clashes with the Merseyside club.

He was the standout performer in both games. Newcastle United also need to find some goalscoring attackers, Mbwana is exactly that. New arrival Joelinton is struggling as well as Miguel Almiron, so a winter move for Samatta could be on the cards. He is contracted with the Belgian club until 2021, and his release clause is around €20m.
