Newcastle United missed chance to sign 21-year-old Spanish defender

Magpies had identified Marc Cucurella as a target last summer but ended up failing to complete a deal to bring him to St. James’ Park. Newcastle United may well regret missing out on signing U21 Spain international now. Magpies almost signed the defender from Barcelona last summer but ended up bringing in Jetro Willems on loan instead.

Marc has since gone on to impress in La Liga with Getafe, and he may well be out of reach for Newcastle United now. Blues, Arsenal and Spurs all want Cucurella, who is now valued at £23m. When Magpies wanted the 21-year-old, the figures involved were much cheaper, and Newcastle must now look back and regret not pushing through the transfer.

Magpies have not exactly solved their left-back issues this campaign, with Willems injured and Danny Rose had to be signed in winter. And if the Spanish defender does move to England and impress with another club, Magpies error of not signing him could yet be made to look even worse.

Newcastle United have terrible consequences in the Premier League this campaign as they are in a 13th place in the table. Magpies signed several footballers during the summer transfer window like Joelinton from Hoffenheim, Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice and Emil Krafth from Amiens.
