Magpies should sell Federico Fernandez in the winter transfer window after it was reported that Rafa Benitez could be interested in signing the defender for Dalian Yifang. The Spanish manager is a big fan of the former Argentina international and could make a swoop to add him once the transfer window re-opens in January.
It is understood that clubs from Spain may also be interested in Federico, and it would be a wise decision by Steve Bruce to try and cash in on the former Swansea centre-back as he does not appear to be in his plans at the moment. Newcastle United are well-stocked in the centre-back position.
Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett, Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark can all play there, and all look as though they are above Fernandez in the pecking order with the 30-year-old defender earning only three appearances off the substitutes’ bench this campaign in the Premier League.
The Argentine centre-back is yet to play more than 10 minutes of action in the league, and as his £43,000-a-week contract expires at the end of the campaign, it would be a good call to sell him in winter, get him off the wage bill earlier than expected and receive a transfer fee in the process.
