Nottingham Forest are believed to be the front runners to sign Newcastle United centre-forward Dwight Gayle this January. Sabri Lamouchi’s side are being strongly linked with a move for the proven Championship goal scorer in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Magpies are open to offers for him next month with Steve Bruce looking to offload him. He spent last campaign on loan in the Championship with West Bromwich Albion and 24 goals for the Baggies in all tournaments. It is unlikely that he will come back to the Hawthorns, which opens the door for a switch to the City Ground.
Forest are targeting promotion this season and sharpening their attack with Dwight would strengthen their chances. The 29-year-old centre-forward had spells at Dagenham and Redbridge and Bishop’s Stortford before Peterborough United snapped him up in 2012.
Englishman went onto score 13 goals in 29 games for the Posh which earned him a move to the top flight with Eagles for nearly £5m. He impressed for Crystal Palace in his three campaigns at Selhurst, bagging a combined 25 goals. Magpies then signed him in 2016 after their relegation to the Championship, and his 23 goals fired them to an immediate promotion under Rafa Benitez.
