Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Diogo Dalot he can leave the side this summer following the signing of Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Red Devils finalised the signing of the right-back on Saturday for a fee of £45 million and the youngster is expected to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice at right-back.
Diogo Dalot arrived in an £18 million deal from Porto last summer and Jose Mourinho stated midway through the last term that he would be Manchester United’s right-back for the next decade.
The Portuguese made 18 appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the last season and was utilised further upfield in a right midfield position.
Though Aaron Wan-Bissaka was always expected to become the first choice, Diogo Dalot was not supposed to be a victim of the deal given his tactical flexibility and the Norwegian’s desire to have two players for every position.
However, the former Porto man has been put up for sale after being told he’s surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.
Diogo Dalot’s exit would be a huge surprise given Manchester United have handed new contract to Ashley Young and Phil Jones in recent months.
However, it is clear that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to make the Manchester United squad his own this transfer window and there are understood to be several departures in the coming weeks.
Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian and Romelu Lukaku could all leave the side with Inter Milan preparing a financial package to sign the Belgium international.
Manchester United will target Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff and the club are ‘increasingly confident’ of completing the deal.
