Gers missed out on the signing of Burnley striker Matej Vydra during the winter transfer window. Czech international was all ready for a switch to Rangers. The transfer collapsed at the eleventh hour, mainly down to the fact that the Clarets wasn’t able to add a replacement for the centre-forward.
Just a matter of weeks since the deal fell through, Matej is already busy showing Steven Gerrard precisely what he is missing out on. The proven Championship performer scored the winner for Burnley on the weekend having been given a rare outing by manager Sean Dyche.
Matej was introduced as a substitute following an injury suffered by Chris Wood after only 22 minutes. Although he repaid the faith shown in him by the boss, his future at Turf Moor still looks unclear. It seems likely that Burnley will still be a PL club next campaign and Matej could be even further down the pecking order if Dyche strengthens his squad.
Gers have already missed out on Matej once, and they should return to sign him ahead of the 2020/21 season. Rangers are 10 points behind Celtic in the race for the title, and it looks unlikely that Steven Gerrard will end the long wait for a long title this campaign.
