Real Madrid have opened talks to sign Eder Militao ahead of Manchester United.
The 20-year-old defender joined Porto in a €4 million (£3.5m) deal from Sao Paulo last summer transfer window but has made a sudden impact in Portugal and has impressed Manchester United scouts.
Jose Mourinho was also believed to be a keen admirer of Eder Militao’s displays and before his surprise sacking in December he had targeted a move for the Brazil international as an alternative if the Red Devils were unable to sign £90 million-rated Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
But according to Goal, Los Blancos are now in the driving seat for the defender’s signature as they have started talks with the centre-back’s representative to complete a deal.
Eder Militao has a €50m (£45m) release clause in his deal with Porto and Read Madrid want to secure the move before he signs a new contract with the Portuguese giants which will raise that figure.
Real Madrid are not desperate for the Brazilian to join in January but want a concrete agreement in place for the youngster to sign a deal in the summer.
