Solskjaer wants 22-goals midfielder to replace Marouane Fellaini

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to bolster his midfield this transfer window and has identified Sporting Lisbon playmaker Bruno Fernandes as a preferred target.

The 24-year-old midfielder is known for his ability from dead ball situations and has netted an impressive 22 goals in 39 appearances for Sporting this season.

Marouane Fellaini was allowed to move to China in the previous window as he was deemed surplus to requirements under the Norwegian, who is keen to bolster a midfield that is light on options behind the preferred three of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera, with the latter reportedly agreeing terms with Paris Saint-Germain.

Fred, a £52 million signing from Shakhtar Donetsk, has underwhelmed since arriving at the Theatre of Dreams and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to add more goals and creativity to his midfield.

According to the Evening Standard, the Red Devils are keen on signing Bruno Fernandes and have been impressed by his progress in the last 18 months. As well as netting 22 goals this season, the Portugal international has laid on 14 assists and now has 11 caps for his country to his name.

Ole Gunnars Solskjaer is anticipated to be given a budget of around £200 million to bolster his team this summer transfer window.

The Norwegian has identified four areas of his squad that he wants to invest in, while he has also keen to offload Alexis Sanchez to make room on the club’s wage bill for new signings as the Chile international shows no signs of improvement this season.
