Steven Gerrard has warned his players that no one is guaranteed a position in the starting lineup as he considers both outgoing and incoming transfer deals.
Celtic have won eight league titles in a row as well as a historic treble, but a second-place league finish and two wins over their Old Firm rivals last season has Rangers supporters excited.
Last season’s top scorer Alfredo Morelos is still at Ibrox despite interest from abroad, while Ryan Kent remains at Anfield as the Gers try to tempt him back to Glasgow.
Amongst the uncertainty following several first-team players including Graham Dorrans and Kyle Lafferty, Gerrard has issued a firm statement to his players: “I pick the best 11 players who I think can get the job done and that will change from week to week.
“I don’t have favourites or stonewallers for the shirt. People might have a different opinion on that because I pick certain players more than others.
“If you’re in the form it gives you a better chance of keeping the shirt, of course. But no one is a shoo-in here any more to start in the first 11, unless they deserve it.”
The Daily Record has revealed that Eintracht Frankfurt are considering their options after watching star striker Morelos play several times in the past few months, with the Colombian ace keen to play in the top European leagues and the Gers also could be in danger of losing captain to Newcastle United.
