Roma are keen on signing Toby Alderweireld this summer with transfer window in Italy still open and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Serie A club have submitted a €20 million bid for Tottenham ace, but Daniel Levy is not budging.
The centre-back is out of contract with the London club next summer, and the 30-year-old had a £25 million release clause in his current contract, but that expired on July 26th.
Roma remain interested in signing him, however, Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Italians are trying to get the Belgium international on the cheap, offering only £18.3 million for the centre-back.
Tottenham Hotspur are refusing to accept anything less than €25 million, however.
Spurs are in a weak position though. They will not want to risk losing Toby Alderweireld for nothing next year, so perhaps if a compromise could be reached between the two sides, Toby Alderweireld might just be playing in Italy this campaign.
Tottenham Hotspur will not want to lose the former Southampton and Atletico Madrid star, but if they receive an offer over £20 million, it might just be in their best interest to let him leave this summer rather than losing him on for free next year.
Meanwhile, the Premier League club have identified Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Matthias Ginter as a potential summer signing and replacement for Toby Alderwireld.
Spurs have only made one first-team addition – midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, and according to Bild, the North London side have expressed a desire to sign Germany international.
The 25-year-old versatile defender is capable of playing at centre-back or right-back, something which will appeal to Mauricio Pochettino.
